Hourglass Mini Ambient Lighting Edit Palette

Welcome back to my blog!

If you haven’t ready my last blog, please stop what you’re doing and read that first! I refer back to it quite a bit! As I was working on my last blog, I was notified that Sephora was having a random sale and that both Hourglass face palette’s went on sale. At first, I was disappointed since the full sized palette ended up being cheaper than what I paid for it. But then I was excited that I could now buy the mini for only $40 instead of $58! Both palette’s are sold out on Sephora sadly, I guess these were limited edition items that are no longer being sold by Sephora or Hourglass. But you can still purchase these palette’s on Beautylish.com if you’re interested at a discounted price!

Product overview- The mini palette has four pans containing .04 oz of product instead of six and the shades included are different than the large palette. Like the other palette, this is supposed to help you create a glowing complexion. These powders are formulated with Photoluminescent Technology to diffuse surrounding light for skin that appears lit from within. This limited edition product is vegan, cruelty-free and free of alcohol, oil, paragons, sulfates, etc. And most importantly, 5% of profits will be donated to the Nonhuman Rights Project, the only organization in the US working to secure civil rights for nonhuman animals.

How to use it-

In order from left to right- Soft Light, Golden Bronze Light, Mood Flush and Champagne Strobe Light
  • Bronze- Contour along the temples, hollows of the cheeks and jawline with Golden Bronze Light (copper gold in a luminous finish)
  • Blush- Apply Mood Flush to the apples of the cheeks (warm plum in a radiant finish)
  • Highlight- Apply Champagne Strobe Light to the high points hof the face. Can be used wet for a more intense highlight (soft champagne in a satin finish)
  • Finish- Apply Soft Light finishing powder all over the face (soft peach in a satin finish)

First Impression- Just as I mentioned in the last blog, the packaging is beautiful. The only difference is that it is smaller and has a little bunny on it to indicate that the product is cruelty-fee and 5% of the profits will be donated to the Nonhuman Rights Project. This palette is definitely more travel friendly due to its size. Upon first glance, I was more excited about the shades of powders in this palette than the larger one. The finish shade that should be placed all over the face was deeper than both shades in the large palette, which is great for anyone with a medium to deep skin tone. The blush shade is beautiful, it isn’t a marbled powder like the large palette but I love the color. The bronze shade is also a bit darker and more luminous compared to the bronzer in the other palette. The highlight is lighter than the shade in the other palette and is just absolutely beautiful.

Application- I applied the powders exactly how Hourglass recommended above. This palette is amazing and user friendly because you have four major steps of a makeup routine all provided in one palette. I admit, I love the finishing powder more in this palette than the large one but I did miss having a lighter and darker shade to use when setting my face. I also love the bronzer shade a bit more in this palette. I generally contour with a cool matte shade and then use a luminous/shimmer bronzer on top. I own and like matte bronzer’s too but I can’t help but get more excited over luminous bronzers. Also as I mentioned above, this bronzer is deeper in color than the larger palette. The blush shade is just beautiful and I just love the highlight. I haven’t tried it wet yet but I’m sure it will look gorgeous.

This is the makeup look I created with all powders in this palette!

Overall Thoughts- Above is a picture I took of myself using all of the powders in this palette and I feel like my skin looks amazing! My skin looks very healthy and more natural even though I have a full face of makeup which is crazy. I have a ton of powder on my face but it doesn’t feel or look like it. I feel like I look like I’m glowing from within instead of noticeable amounts of highlight, etc on my face.

I feel like the colors were more up my alley in terms of my skin tone. Also, you gotta love the price! I love that it’s so travel friendly and this one product can cover four steps of my makeup process which is awesome. The pans are smaller than I’d like to see, they’re still the same size as the larger palette. Also, I liked having a lighter under eye setting powder in the larger palette. But honestly, when choosing between the two, I think it just comes down to what you need in this product, what your skin tone is and if you like options. Do you need both? All I can say is that I don’t regret buying both, especially at a discount price for both of them. One has more of a matte bronzer while this one has a luminous bronzer. The other palette has two beautiful blushes and setting powders while this one only has one of each. It really just depends on what you’re looking for and which palette you are more attracted to. As I mentioned in my last blow, Hourglass just announced a new face palette for deeper skin tones so if this still isn’t for you keep an eye out for the new product!
