Hey everyone!

I figured since my last blog was about a high-end highlighter, I would stay with the trend and talk about another one! This week I’m bringing you a review on Laura Geller’s “Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator” in “Ballerina”.

For those of you that watch beauty vloggers, you’re probably asking me why would I not get it in the shade “Gilded Honey” because almost everyone is talking about that shade. My response is that I already have a few gold highlighters, I don’t need an abundance of them. Yes, I swatched Gilded Honey in Ulta and it was beautiful, but I don’t have a highlighter like Ballerina in my collection so I wanted to give it a shot. Ballerina is described as a “candlelit, warm rose gold” shade.

Product Detail- “This innovative hybrid texture applies like a sheer powder but feels like a cream, creating a translucent wash of luminous color that can be swept all over the face for a lit-from-within glow. A fresh 3-D design captures the look of our favorite Italian dessert, and lasts until the very last application.”I purchased this product from Ulta for $26.

Packaging- As you can see in the picture, the highlighter itself is pretty small. The packaging is also pretty plain, plastic with a see through lid. But it is only $26 so I wasn’t super surprised. However, I love the swirl design in the powder, I’ve used the highlighter several times already and the pattern is definitely still there!

Pigmentation/Texture- I have to admit that I’m just not a fan of the texture and it’s because of the texture that it lacks in pigmentation. The application is just too sheer for what I’m going for.

Overall opinion- The reason why I buy high-end highlighters is because they are creamy and very pigmented, two things that I think are lacking in the majority of drug store highlighters. Even though this is technically a high-end product, I don’t feel like I’m getting the high-end quality I was hoping for. I love the shade and the design of the highlighter, but I feel like I have to keep building up the application to get the coverage I’m looking for which, in my opinion, is against the point.

But I was thinking it could just be the shade I got, maybe it isn’t showing up well because of my medium skin tone. It probably would’ve made more sense to get “Gilded Honey” because I know that would’ve definitely show up better but what can I do? Maybe I’ll pick that one up in the future and my opinion could completely change. In all fairness, the description does say the product applies a translucent wash of color. This highlighter was completely an impulse buy because 1- they just build a brand new Ulta where my boyfriend lives and I was excited and 2- I was surprised by how “cheap” it was. My advice to everyone- always do your research before making a makeup purchase!

Let me know if you have one of the two shades and tell me what you think!
